We offer all new students an introductory lesson with no obligation to enrol. This is a 30 minute private lesson with a teacher to experience a lesson at the Cantabile School of Music. For more information about Trial Lessons, please click here.

We believe in providing and teaching a well-balanced musicianship when it comes to learning an instrument.

We primarily focus on classical music, but are able to teach a variety of genres if the student wishes to do so.

This means we emphasise the importance of learning from all areas of music, such as pedagogy, aural training, sight-reading and music theory, but most of all, we believe in teaching in a way that helps students to enjoy the music they learn.

Our teachers have received their music education from prestigious tertiary institutions and have been personally selected by our Director. In addition to their excellent music credentials, they have warm and friendly personalities. Regardless of their qualifications and experience, we also require our teachers to undergo training to ensure they fit our approach and philosophy in teaching music. We are confident that we have the right teacher to meet your musical needs. You can read about each teacher in the “Our Teachers” section on our website.

We understand that a teacher and student must work well together to create positive music learning. This is why we encourage all students to have a trial lesson with the teacher to see if they are happy and work well with the teacher before enrolling.

Yes! We encourage all adults to come and learning music from us – no matter how old you think you may be. Many of our adult music students never had the opportunity when they were growing up, and have said learning an instrument now has become one of the most rewarding experiences in their life. Others are coming back to learning an instrument which they may have learnt in the past.

Remember that as an adult you have the willingness and passion to play and practice your instrument. Most of all, you will not regret it!

  • At CSM, we promote a school environment where students can not only learn privately with a teacher, but also be part of a community. Our school workshops, events and concerts provide our students with the opportunity to collaborate, to learn from others, to interact and engage with other students.
  • The provision of different instruments at our school exposes our students to a variety of instrument types. Having multiple teachers allows us to schedule two or more family members at the same time even for different instruments.
  • Our professional office staff deals with all the administrative duties that private teachers have to manage on their own. This means that all our teachers can put all their attention and focus towards you as the student.

We definitely acknowledge the benefits that having music lessons online can bring, however there are also limitations. Being physically present in the same space as your teacher creates a unique connection and atmosphere that can enhance the learning experience of your child. Learning an instrument also requires a lot of detailed attention, in order to develop proper technique, fingering, and coordination.

Although our offers of instrumental lessons makes classical music as our primary focus, our teachers are able to teach a variety of genres, from pop to jazz, early to modern.

Let us know what you’d like to learn!

Yes – every year we prepare many students for the AMEB (Australian Music Examinations Board) as well as other examination boards and our students achieve excellent results. Apart from their preparation in their private lessons, we give students opportunities to receive feedback and advice in our masterclasses for examination and performance practice.

Private lessons and group classes both have their own benefits to a child’s learning – it will depend on each individual child and to find out what is best for them.

Here are some considerations:

  • How old is the child?
  • What instrument are they interested to learn?
  • Does your child thrive in a social environment? Or would work better individually?
  • Does your child respond well to healthy competition amongst their peers?

Considering these questions may help decide what lesson format will help your child to thrive. Both private AND group lesson students have proven to excel in music – the progress of child may just depend on which environment is best for them.

If you are unable to make it to your lesson, please inform us and we can provide you with a makeup lesson. We require at least 24 hours notice for all cancellation of lessons. If students have to cancel their normal scheduled lesson and sufficient notice is provided, students are offered a maximum of two (2) makeup lessons per term. Please note that makeup lessons do not roll over to the subsequent term and we do not refund any missed/cancelled lesson.

On occasion, we only offer online lessons as an alternative for student absences. We do not offer regular online lessons.

If you’re ready to start lessons, we’d like to offer you a trial lesson first. Please contact us so we can arrange a trial lesson with you.
