Teacher Spotlight: Gina
Get to know some of our lovely teachers here at Cantabile!
Gina, Violin
How long have you been playing the guitar and why did you pick it up?
It’s been a full 11 years since I had my first lesson. My reason for beginning is a little bit anticlimactic though – I saw a family friend perform and thought they looked cool, so I asked my mum to let me learn violin. It took me a whole six months to finally convince her.
What do you like the most about your instrument?
The violin is a very sensitive instrument with a massive range of sounds and textures, and it’s always fun to discover new things I can do with it. I like to think it’s almost like having a pet, you grow to understand what makes the instrument happier and behave better if you’ve been spending lots of time and care playing it.
What do you like the most about teaching at Cantabile?
I like that students at Cantabile are willing to participate in activities and events and sharing music together. You get to see other students playing different kinds of music. Everyone is very friendly and fun to talk to.
Quick advice for students:
Spend lots of time listening to music as well! Go to concerts, listen to CDs/recordings and go music hunting on YouTube. Try to listen to a lot of genres and styles, share music that you like with your friends and family, or to find songs you want to play. It makes practice more fun if you play songs you like or find new things to try.
Exciting Updates in Term 3!
We recently reviewed our teaching structures and are in the process of implementing some exciting changes to improve the learning process here at Cantabile.
This will include a new focus on our unique Music Ladder system, as well as the introduction of term reports for our students and an optional parent-teacher meeting to track student progress.
Information regarding these updates will be sent out to parents soon – please contact us if you have any queries!
Welcome to the inaugural What’s Going On column of our newsletter.
This section will feature an assortment of shows, concerts and productions happening in our local area. Attending concerts and shows is another great way to foster a passion for music as well as gain inspiration from other performers and musicians.
If you know of any other events that are not currently featured in our list, feel free to email us in so we can share it with the rest of our school community!
Enjoy!
